Callie Hoffman has a good life in Kingdom, Kansas. She's engaged to Levi Housler, the new pastor of Kingdom Mennonite Church, and she spends her days working with Lizzie Housler, her friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law, at the town cafe.

When a body is discovered on the road outside Kingdom and the deceased turns out to be the victim of a serial killer, the new county sheriff begins questioning Kingdom residents. Unsettled at the prospect of a killer in Kingdom, Callie is desperate to find answers for herself, especially when her own fiance seems to know more about the murder than he's telling.

As the town battles an entirely unforeseen danger and Callie's very life is threatened, the stakes are as high as they've ever been and the people of Kingdom must learn anew to put their trust in God alone.

"Small-town life meets a dangerous outside world in this taut, suspenseful story, the third (after Inescapable and Unbreakable) in Mehl's Mennonite-flavored romantic suspense series. A good choice for readers who liked Amy Wallace's "Place of Refuge" series. " - Library Journal "Mehl infuses this tale with excitement and genuine emotion, once again drawing readers into her truly relatable characters' struggles and motivations. Readers from all backgrounds will enjoy this thrilling glimpse into Mennonite life." --Booklist "Outstanding series... Mehl has opened the world of the Mennonites for readers and has consistently done it with respect." --RT Book Reviews

My thoughts: First, the disclaimer. "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own." That done, UNFORESEEABLE is an older book of Ms. Mehl's, but still a goodie. I had read the first two books in this series (Inescapable and Unbreakable) when they came out, but didn't remember too much about them. I'm happy to say that UNFORESEEABLE stands alone and you don't need to read the other books first.

I enjoyed getting to know Callie. Levi was a bit harder to understand. While Callie tried hard to be the perfect Mennonite woman, something was under the surface that made her identifiable to the reader. I think Levi was harder to understand because it was in first person, the entire time.

I have to admit I didn't have a clue who-dun-it. I couldn't figure it out. I will also admit that the suspense was keeping me awake at night, so I peeked ahead to see who-dun-it. Of course, I still had to keep reading to find out why... and how Callie's life would be in danger.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will love UNFORESEEABLE. It is a Mennonite book, too, so anyone who likes Bonnet fiction (not specifically Amish) will likely enjoy it too.  Recommended.

It's always nice when you read an older book that the author has written it as a standalone. Thank you for sharing. I've read some of Nancy Mehl's books.
