Abigail

Title: ABIGAIL
Author: Jill Eileen Smith
Publisher: Revell
March 2010
ISBN: 978-0-8007-3321-6
Genre: Inspirational/biblical fiction

Abigail is a young girl, promised in marriage to a man that she does not love. As Abigail blossoms to maturity, she lives in fear of the day when her betrothed will come and take her away, and so does her family—to the point that they are considering running away, or even canceling the betrothal, leaving Abigail as a “divorced” woman, and shunned the rest of her life.

But then circumstances change, and suddenly Abigail is offered a chance at happiness with the handsome David. Abigail takes a leap of faith and joins his nomadic tribe. Still, her struggles are far from over. David is hardly a faithful husband—how can Abigail share his love with all his other women?

ABIGAIL is the second book in Ms. Smith’s series The Wives of King David but it easily stands alone. I did have the opportunity to read the first book in the series, Michal, and was really impressed with how well Ms. Smith did with her biblical research, her attention to historical detail, and her well-developed characters. I could almost feel the desert sand as I trailed along with Abigail and David through the wilderness.

ABIGAIL will help bring the biblical story of King David and one of his many brides—ABIGAIL—to life. If you enjoy reading biblical fiction, then you won’t want to miss this latest book in the series. Available now. $14.99. 371 pages.
