God's Voice by B J BASSETT

  August 27

God’s Voice

Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice. Deuteronomy 4:12 NIV

Our vacation was over. We were about to leave the motel room when my husband, Ed, realized his wallet was missing. We both froze. Then we began to search everywhere. We unpacked and repacked our luggage. And we prayed. I looked under pillows, shook bedding—searching, searching. My husband went to the restaurant where we’d had dinner the night before. His billfold wasn’t there.

It was time to leave without his wallet. That’s when a still, small voice said, “Look under the bed.” I looked at Ed. He was on his knees, his upper body lying across the bed. “I found it. It was under the bed,” he said with a sigh of relief, his voice full of gratitude. We headed home, rejoicing.

Are we in the habit of listening for God’s voice? He wants to communicate with us, not only during times of crisis but always.

Father, open my ears and heart to hear Your voice every day. May I do less talking and more listening. Amen.
