My thoughts (lvh):  COLD TRUTH is the 2nd  book in this exciting series and even if you missed book one, this stands alone.

Coop is a man's man, gruff, grunt-y, and more than a little abrupt. It's his way, no highway option. Kiera, as a chemist, is super smart, scientifically, bur not so much otherwise. The two made for an interesting couple. Both of them  needed to learn people skills.

The premise was good, unique,  and page-turning.  I can't wait to catch up with this team again in book three. Ms. Sleeman is a favorite romantic suspense author of mine for good reason.
