An Irishwoman's Tale

Title: AN IRISHWOMAN’S TALE
Author: Patti Lacy
Publisher: Kregel Publications
2008
ISBN: 978-0-8254-2987-3
Genre: Inspirational/women’s fiction

Mary Freeman isn’t happy, despite the family farm, her loving husband, and her two beautiful daughters. Instead she is haunted by the voices in her head. Voices from her past, when she was a five-year-old living in Ireland. When a new friend, Sally, forces Mary to face her past after a crisis in Mary’s youngest daughter’s life, Mary travels to Ireland to discover the truth about her past.

When five, Mary was forced to leave her family and was taken on a plane, across the ocean to the United States, where she was raised by an adoptive mother. Mary now cares for her adoptive mother in her home, but she is confused why her mother is cold toward her. What Mary discovers in Ireland will force her face-to-face with God.

AN IRISHWOMAN’S TALE is based on a true story which makes it all the more interesting. There are two stories in one in this book, one of a little girl who tragically gets her heart broken, and one of a grown woman with a life of her own who is bitter, and struggling to understand why. This debut novel is strong and powerfully written and will stay with the reader for a long time to come.

Ms. Lacy’s voice is perfect for this tale, as we travel across the Emerald isle to Ireland—and back again. When you pick up AN IRISHWOMAN’S TALE, make sure you brew yourself a cup of Irish Breakfast tea, and settle in a cozy seat. Once you start this book, you won’t want to put it down. I’m looking forward to reading more by this talented new author. 311 pages. $13.99
