Beloved Counterfeit

Title: BELOVED COUNTERFEIT
Author: Kathleen Y’Barbo
Publisher: Barbour Books
May 2009
ISBN: 978-1-60260-342-4
Genre: Inspirational/historical

When Ruby O’Shea and her three nieces are washed ashore on Fairweather Kay, Ruby sees it as a chance to start over. Her sister is deceased, and Ruby is hiding the girls from their father, pirate Thomas Hawkins. Ruby takes a job at a boarding house and passes the girls off as her daughters.

Micah Tate is a wrecker, a widower, and called to the ministry. He is attracted to Ruby, even if she does have three children, and he is torn about the direction his life needs to go. Ruby currently won’t give Micah the time of day even though he vows to marry her, and Micah is battling his own past demons.

Thomas Hawkins will go to any length to find his daughters – what will his determination cost the residents of Fairweather Key? What will happen when all Ruby’s secrets come to light?

BELOVED COUNTERFEIT is the third book in the Fairweather Key series by Kathleen Y’Barbo. I had the privilege of reading the first three books when they came out, and was looking forward to reading this one.

Ruby has quite a colorful past, so it is understandable why she wanted to cover it up. I didn’t quite understand why she was hiding her nieces (either it wasn’t explained, or I dozed while reading that part) but her actions seemed believable. If you like historical fiction then you won’t want to miss this book—pick up a copy of BELOVED COUNTERFEIT at your favorite Christian bookstore. $14.95. 319 pages.
