The Legend of St. Nicholas / Love Letters from God

Title: THE LEGEND OF ST. NICHOLAS
Author: Dandi Daley Mackall
Illustrator: Richard Cowdrey
Publisher: Zonderkidz
September 2014
ISBN: 978-0310731153
Genre: Christmas / children age 4 – 8

In The Legend of St. Nicholas, the new artwork, created by Marley and Me illustrator, Richard Cowdrey, captivates audiences and tells the story of a young man named Nicholas, who was moved by the plight of the poor and needy. Nicholas spent his life secretly helping the poor all over the world, giving gifts on Christmas Eve to remind people of the greatest Gift of all, Jesus Christ. This gentle Christmas book introduces the original St. Nicholas and offers inspiration for readers to become cheerful givers themselves. The final pages in the book include fun Father Christmas traditions in other lands.

THE LEGEND OF ST. NICHOLAS is a soft-look at the real meaning of Christmas. It centers around Santa Claus and a young boy named Nick who wants to buy things for himself and not for his family for Christmas. Santa tells a story to a bunch of children including the story of Jesus and the story of the real St. Nicholas and it inspires Nick to do the right thing.

My two daughters enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. A perfect gift for your favorite child or grandchild for this upcoming holiday season. $15.99 hardcover. $11.35 Kindle. 32 pages.

Title: LOVE LETTERS FROM GOD: Bible Stories
Author: Glenys Nellist
Illustrator: Sophie Allsopp
Publisher: Zonderkidz
August 2014
ISBN: 978-0310733843
Genre: Childrens / Bible stories / nonfiction

What child does not love to receive mail? What if that child could receive, open and read his or her own personal mail from God?

The Love Letters from God will invite them to do just that! Accompanying each story in this unique children’s Bible is a very special and encouraging letter, each tucked away in its own lift-the-flap envelope, just for them. Written for children ages four to eight, the Love Letters from God includes eighteen of the most popular Bible stories—nine from the Old Testament and nine from the New Testament. Following each story the child will find his or her own letter from God.

Children will love the excitement of opening the letters and parents will love how each letter elaborates on the Bible story being told. A very special Bible verse, entitled God’s Wonderful Words To You will accompany each story and letter. Much more than a mere memory verse, each carefully chosen promise will be God’s very own personal words of love, encouragement, and hope. This book will culminate in an invitation for the children to write their own RSVP to God.

LOVE LETTERS FROM GOD is a great Bible story book for children. I used it as part as my homeschool day. Not all the stories are entirely biblically accurate (Jesus didn’t carry His cross all the way up the hill, the Bible states someone else did) but they are close. My daughters enjoyed the letters from God especially.

If you are looking for a good Bible story book for children with a unique twist, LOVE LETTERS FROM GOD is a book to consider. Also good for Sunday schools, church nurseries, Christian schools, church libraries, children’s church or as a gift for your favorite child. $16.99 hardcover. 40 pages.
