Interview with Martha Rogers / Giveaway!!!!!

1.       Why do you write the kind of books you do?

I write historical romance because I love history and reading about life in times past. My appetite was really whetted as I learned more about the history of Oklahoma when we traveled there to visit our son and his family. It became the base line for my first series that included Oklahoma becoming a state in 1907.

2. Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life?

The day I married my husband Rex was the happiest and most wonderful day of my life, and we’ve now been married 55 years this past October. We’ve been through so much together, but God was with us every step of the way, and we are stronger now because of the journey.

3. If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why?

I would love to spend an evening with Laura Bush because we both love books and reading. I’d like to talk with her about how we can get our children more interested in books than video and computer games.

4, What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?

Besides writing, I enjoy scrapbooking and crafts. I don’t much of that right now as I don’t have the time I once had to devote to it. At the moment we’re busy planning for our granddaughter’s wedding on January 2.

5. What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?

 The most difficult thing for me is to actually get started. I can think and plan and write a synopsis of sorts, but I have a hard time actually getting started. Sometimes I will write a lot of back story until I come to a spot that lights a bulb in my head and says “Start Here.”

6. What advice would you give to a beginning author?

I have 4 P’s I think are the keys to success with writing. The first one is to have a plan. Know what you want to write and why and set aside a time to write. The second one is to pray. Seek the Lord’s help every step of the way. Third is to have patience. A writing career doesn’t happen overnight and may take years to develop. The fourth thing is perseverance because you must never give up once you’ve heard the call to be a writer. God will have exactly the right time and place for success if you don’t give up.
 

7. Tell us about Love Never Fails:

This is the third in the series that started with the love story of my great-grandparents. This one is fiction with the only facts being names of characters.

Molly Whiteman has returned to Stoney Creek to teach school. Old friends of her parents come for a visit with their son, Stefan Elliot, who is a childhood friend of Molly and an officer in the U.S. Cavalry. Even with their differing views concerning guns and war, they are drawn to each other, but have little hope for romance. When trouble strikes both their lives, they learn that God’s love will see them through, but will it be enough to overcome their different beliefs?

8. Is there one particular message or “moral of the story” you hope readers walk away with?

The message of the book is in the title. God’s love will never fail us, not matter what the circumstances, whether it be fortune or tragedy, God is with us to see us through. Even when we turn away from Him, and try to reject His love, it is there waiting for us to return.

9. How did Love Never Fails get started?

The whole series started because of letters my dad gave me. They were from my great-grandfather to my great-grandmother during the Civil War. Another letter was from her father to her when she went off to school in New Orleans. That whetted my appetite for genealogy and through the research, the idea for the series was born.

Martha Rogers is a free-lance writer and was named Writer of the Year at the Texas Christian Writers Conference in 2009 and writes a weekly devotional for ACFW. Martha and her husband Rex live in Houston where they enjoy spending time with their grandchildren.  A former English and Home Economics teacher, Martha loves to cook and experimenting with recipes and loves scrapbooking when she has time. She has written two series, Winds Across the Prairie and Seasons of the Heart as well as several novellas. Love Stays True and Love Finds Faith, the first two books in her new series, The Homeward Journey, are available now with book number three being released in the fall of 2014.
