Kelli London grew up in St. Louis, and her dreams of becoming a songwriter took her to college in Texas where she majored in everything except music. Now, she’s home in St. Louis to attend her brother’s wedding, and her family is trying to talk her into moving back. Kelli wants to stay in Texas, but she allows her family to convince her.
Heather Anderson had an affair with a married man and then a one-night stand with a drummer in a popular Christian band. Now broken and alone, she searches for someone to help her, and for forgiveness for her mistakes.
Brian Howard seems to have it made, but his real love is biochemistry. He enjoys rapping for Jesus, but worse, his marketing director makes it seem all about money—not about God. Should he go back to school for his PhD or follow his marketing director’s advice to become full time as a rapper?
CHERISHED is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Tate. There are some good topics included in CHERISHED, messages we need to hear as Ms. Tate reminds us that if we ask God to forgive our sins, He is capable of forgiving even the worst mistake we make and not only forgiving them, but He can also still love us.
Not being either urban or black, there are some slang in this book I didn’t fully ‘get’, which detracted from my enjoyment of the book. There were also a lot of characters to keep track of. I really struggled through this book, and didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked to. At times, it kind of read like a fairytale. $15.99. 310 pages.

It's an interesting balance isn't it--enough slang for verisimilitude, but not so much that it confuses. I have the same problem when accents and dialects are overly well-rendered in books as well.
I too struggled with the urban slang and things I know are culture to african americans that I just wasn't familiar with .
