ISBN: 978-1-609073268
Genre: Young adult

Imagine a school in the year 2074 where students don't read history, but watch it happen around them; where running in gym class isn't around a track, but up a virtual mountain; and where learning about animals means becoming one through an avatar.

Welcome to Cragbridge Hall, the most advanced and prestigious school in the world. Twin siblings Abby and Derick Cragbridge are excited as new students to use their famed grandfather's inventions that make Cragbridge Hall so incredible. But when their grandfather and parents go missing, the twins begin following a trail of clues left by their grandfather. They must find out where their family is, learn who they can trust, and discover what secrets are hidden within Cragbridge Hall.

Abby and Derick soon realize they are caught in a race with a fierce adversary to discover their grandfather's greatest secret--a dangerous discovery that could alter both history and reality.

THE INVENTOR’S SECRET is the first book in the Cragbridge Hall series, is a science fiction/fantasy / history book wrapped in one. The twins, Abby and Derick must travel through time to find their missing family and unravel clues left by the grandfather.

My daughter (age 11) thought THE INVENTOR’S SECRET would be a great book, but she apparently loves science fiction/fantasy as much as I do (not much) so she didn’t care much for the book. She rated it one star. Disappointing. I decided I’d give it a try to see what I thought of it. The writing style slips out of point of view a lot, but most readers (including my daughter) wouldn’t know what that means. I found it pulled me out of the story and I couldn’t turn off the internal editor to get past it. But otherwise, the story is not badly written. It has a lot of interesting details, and enough adventure to satisfy the most adventurous. Plus it’s a unique way to teach history to young adults.  Age range is ages 9 – 12, grades 3 – 7. $17.99 hardcover. 352 pages.
