Eventide

Title: EVENTIDE

Genre: Amish / romance

EVENTIDE is the riveting conclusion to The Days of Redemption trilogy by Shelley Shepard Gray, celebrated author of tender Christian romance novels set in Amish country.

Honest and faithful Elsie Keim falls for her new neighbor, Landon, but she can’t bear to tell him the truth: She’s going blind.

Landon is enamored with Elsie. When Elsie’s brother Roman steps in and shares the truth of Elsie’s disease, Landon is floored. His job is demanding and takes him away from home, sometimes for days at a time. He wonders how he’d be able to keep up with his responsibilities and take care of Elsie.

In Eventide, three generations of the Keim family come together to make their dreams come true.

EVENTIDE is book three in the Days of Redemption series by Ms. Gray. Readers will want to read Daybreak and Ray of Light first as these books don’t stand alone.

EVENTIDE moves very slow. It is a book that is easy to put down, and it was rather predictable. But Ms. Gray is a wonderful author, with excellent word choices, and the ability to write real characters. I sympathized with Elsie, wanting to live like a normal person and not be coddled, and I was glad when she stood up for herself. I was also upset with her brother for spilling her secrets to Landon when she should’ve been the one to tell him herself.

If you are fans of Shelley Shepard Gray and of Amish fiction, EVENTIDE or any of the other two books in the series are ones to consider. Discussion questions are included at the end, as well as a teaser for Ms. Gray’s new Christmas novella coming out later this year. $12.99. 288 pages.

Book Info
About the Book: A young Amish woman harbors a difficult secret. Does she dare share the truth with the man she hopes to marry?

Elsie Keim doesn't want to be left behind. Her twin sister, Viola, and her older brother, Roman, have both found love and are building lives of their own. But Elsie? She's still stuck at home, being treated like a child. No one seems to consider her a capable woman-all they see are the thick lenses of her glasses, constant reminders that Elsie suffers from keratoconus and is slowly going blind.

Elsie knows there's much more to her than her disease. That's why when a new neighbor, Landon Troyer, shows some interest in her, she doesn't want anything to scare him away . . . even if it means keeping her condition a secret.

Landon is ready to start a new life and feels like Elsie may just be the right woman to start it with. But when Roman steps in and shares the truth about Elsie's illness, Landon is floored. His job is demanding and takes him away from home, sometimes for days at a time. How could he keep up with his responsibilities and take care of Elsie?
