Delilah is the fourth book in The Ties that Bind series, and she was actually the antagonist in the first book. Her story is one of finding herself … and the man that everyone has known was perfect for her. Here’s the blurb:

Newly elected judge, John M. Turner, tries his best to call an end to his war with former Circuit Judge Delilah James, the woman he bested in the election by only a narrow margin. Delilah refuses to accept his flag of surrender. Worse yet, a vengeful assistant state attorney, the other candidate whose entry in the race actually handed the win to John, is seeking to have them both removed from the Florida Bar, and the game Delilah has forced upon him has given their enemy ammunition for his disbarment.

Delilah likes the give and take she shares with John. What fun is there in surrender? She is trying to make amends, though, but she makes a mess of every attempt. Added to her foibles, life has become complicated: John’s teenager sister hates her, Libby Carter, has been arrested for battery on a police officer and has embroiled Delilah in the plight of the homeless. Her past has returned to haunt her, and if that’s not enough, she’s deep into the one experience in life she never thought would happen to her. She’s fallen deeply in love.

Why do you write the kind of books you do?

I write in different contemporary genres, including romance, romantic suspense, and contemporary fiction, but for me everything in our lives holds a hint of romance. This doesn’t have to be the boy-girl type of love. Rather, we have to love what we’re interested in or we’re going to eventually walk away from it, and if we don’t walk away, we could end up hating it.

For me, I am involved in a great romance with God. He is the lover of my soul, the treasure of my heart. I write to share that with others. More specifically, I write to share that God is in the details of every aspect of our lives. Even when we make terrible mistakes, we can rest assured that God will work it to our good.

What is your current work in progress?

I’m writing a fun Christmas novel right now. It’s entitled Room at the End. The setting is a Florida Everglades city where a college professor and his young nephew have found their way and have been harbored by the friendly … and quirky … citizens, descendants of rum-runners, blockaders, and plume traders who take pride in their heritage and work hard to overcome it at the same time. The drawing attraction he has for a pretty school teacher who has an over-protective mother jeopardizes his attempts to keep his nephew from a child welfare system that does not have the boy’s best interest at heart. In Mullet Harbor, you can rest assured, there will be Christmas miracles.

What three things about you would surprise readers?

I’m a Florida native who has never had the privilege of seeing (or playing) in snow.

I collect salt and pepper shakers, and I have 500+ pairs. A few years ago, though, my dear mother-in-law was searching for salt and pepper during a family meal. I handed her a large round box of salt and a small square tin of pepper, and she said, “You mean, you have all of these salt and pepper shakers, but not one of them is used for salt and pepper?”

Although I can do no other type of stitch work, after meeting a ninety-year-old woman at a quilting show, I learned to make tatted lace. It took that dear older woman an extra session with me, but she was right when she said, “Once you learn how to make the knots and picots, you’ll never forget.” I have not forgotten how to tat, and I will never forget her determination to teach me.

 
What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?

I think I gave that away above. I collect salt and pepper shakers, and I like to tat.

What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?

This  is going to sound funny, but my biggest obstacle to writing is simply doing it. Once I sit down and get immersed into the story that is swimming around in my head, I always say, “Why is it so difficult to plant my bottom in the chair?” After much contemplation, I realized that I was taught by a well-meaning mother that work isn’t supposed to be pleasure. Though writing fiction is not easy, for me writing is like a vacation for my mind. I feel guilty taking that working vacation every day. What a blessed life I live.

Fay Lamb is the only daughter of a rebel genius father and a hard-working, tow-the-line mom. She is not only a fifth-generation Floridian, she has lived her life in Titusville, where her grandmother was born in 1899.

Since an early age, storytelling has been Fay’s greatest desire. She seeks to create memorable characters that touch her readers’ hearts. She says of her writing, “If I can’t laugh or cry at the words written on the pages of my manuscript, the story is not ready for the reader.” Fay writes in various genres, including romance, romantic suspense, and contemporary fiction. Her latest novel is the fourth novel in her The Ties that Bind series, Delilah.
