Look Before You Leap by Jenna V Hilton

My pit bull lab mix, Skye, hates rain. Really, I can’t blame her! Rain’s yucky and Skye’s usually stuck outside when it rains. My dad’s study is downstairs and he has a window that opens up to the backyard. Dad likes to open the window sometimes so he can greet the dog.

It was raining buckets one day when he opened the window. Skye’s an adventurous dog and Dad had been greeting the dog this way long enough for Skye to apparently weigh the pros and cons of jumping through the window into Dad’s study. When Dad opened the window, Skye crowded her whole body into the window so Dad couldn’t close it and made to jump. There’s a good sized distance between the window and the floor, and Skye would DEFINITELY break something if she jumped. So Dad shoved her back outside and shut the window fast so Skye wouldn’t get hurt.

I remember hearing something about rushing in where angels fear to tread. God doesn’t want us getting hurt, and sometimes we really need to take a closer look at something we want to do, just in case we missed something. God wants the best for us. That doesn’t mean we should hide under a rock, but we ALWAYS need to seek God’s counsel before taking the leap.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us enough to give us warnings in scripture. Help us to heed them. In Jesus Name, Amen.
