Treasuring Emma

Title: TREASURING EMMA
Author: Kathleen Fuller
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
August 2011
ISBN: 978-1-59554-775-0
Genre: Inspirational/Amish

Emma Shetler has just lost her mamm to a long battle with cancer. The funeral is happening, and yet Emma has been kicked out of everywhere, and left with nothing to do but mourn while her sister Clara King ran the funeral. Emma is bitter, Clara had nothing to do with their mamm when she was sick and dying, but now she acted like the devoted daughter.

Adam Otto left his Amish community two years ago. And now, a confusing letter from Emma’s grossmammi has drawn him home again, just for a visit. With nothing to do, Adam tries to reach out to Emma and her grossmammi, helping around the farm, but Emma seems to want nothing to do with him.

Clara and her husband Peter are destitute and Peter is unable to find a job. Yet when Peter’s cousin, Mark, arrives, Peter is quick to offer hospitality. Clara is attracted to Mark and rebuffs her husband. Not only that, but Clara wants Emma’s property, Emma’s land, and everything on it. And she’s determined to get her hands on all of it… but someone has an even more murderous agenda. Will evil plans win?

TREASURING EMMA is the most recent book by best-selling author, Kathleen Fuller. I enjoyed reading it, though I must admit that I disliked Clara and Mark. Peter was a sweetheart and I had to totally admire him for everything he did and said in this book. Emma is bitter and Adam is confused and hurting, both of them struggling to find God’s plans and purpose for their lives. But are they willing to let go of “self” long enough to look to God? Discussion questions are included. $14.99. 320 pages. 4.5 stars.
