Lizzie Engel has been fired from her job, due to false accusations of embezzlement, and is convinced that someone is stalking her and sending her threatening notes. Lizzie is confident she’ll be safe in Kingdom, Kansas, at least until she finds her footing and can leave again. There she meets handsome and kind Noah Housler and begins to think that things possibly might be fine.

But it soon becomes apparent that the threat Lizzie has fled from is now closer than ever. And Lizzie has only one place left to run—

INESCAPABLE is the first book in Ms. Mehl’s Road to Kingdom series. Readers will sympathize with Lizzie with all the troubles in her life, even though she makes some mistakes.

There was a lot of telling in this book. The characters were kind of flat. But once you got past that, the premise was good, and it was interesting to read about a very strict, old order Mennonite community, and a woman who is struggling to find herself. Fans of bonnet fiction will want to read this book. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. 4 stars. $14.99. 332 pages.
