I love the name of this blog since lighthouses are
some of my favorite things! Lighthouses are always in my books, so my new book Abigail’s
Secret, has a lighthouse with an important role in the story.
Have you ever felt incompetent to do all you need to
do? Does it seem like other women have greater strength and ability, especially
women in your family tree, like your grandmother? Has anyone ever given you
reason to doubt yourself?
Abby Baker, the main character of Abigail’s Secret,
feels that way. A widow with a young child, she returns to her hometown of Hope
Harbor hoping to start over and help her ailing mother at the same time. She
wishes she could be more like her grandmother who had been a lighthouse keeper
and also had a young child to raise alone. How did her grandmother manage on an
isolated island? What was the secret to her strength?
Hope Harbor is a small picturesque coastal town in Maine whose residents all know each other. They also know who’s new in town and who the strangers, the outsiders, are. Most of these outsiders are tourists in town for the season. So when Carson Stevens buys the lighthouse on Hope Island with plans to turn it into a bed and breakfast, the locals question his idea. But when Carson meets Abby, the granddaughter of the former lighthouse keepers, he enlists her help in the restoration.
Abby is drawn to the lighthouse, curious to know more
about the place where her grandmother lived. As she and Carson work together,
they discover more than they expected, including her grandmother’s secrets.
Abby and Carson support each other in their quests,
giving them motivation to continue. Have you ever had someone support you in
one of your goals? What difference did their support make to you?

Having support when I went back to grad school as a non-traditional student gave me the encouragement and faith to accomplish the goal I wanted in obtaining a masters in counseling that I felt was God's direction for me. It was a tremendous journey!
