Be Sweet

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us! I hope you had opportunity to spend it with family.

Title: BE SWEET
Author: Diann Hunt
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
2007
ISBN: 978-1-59554-194-9
Genre: Inspirational/chick lit

Char Haverford did not want to go back too Tappery, Michigan. The place holds bad memories for her. Her ex-husband, the child that should have been hers, her bitter mother, and her too perfect sister. But her parents’ fifty-years anniversary loomed and if Char and Janni didn’t throw the most perfect party ever, they would never hear the end of it.

So, Char leaves her seaside cottage in Maine and her high-octane job and heads home, just in time for Sugar Bush. With Janni’s family needing help harvesting the maple syrup crop, Char is thrown right into farm life. But when Mom moves into Janni’s house acting paranoid, her dad sneaking around, and sweet Janni suddenly moody, Char isn’t sure where to turn. A local dentist is a welcome diversion. Could Char possibly learn that things aren’t always as they seem?

I loved BE SWEET. I think this is one of my favorites of Ms. Hunt’s books so far. Having lived in Western Michigan, Sugar Bush time is one of my favorite parts of the winter season, especially when the maple sap is running. I enjoyed reminiscing about working on a maple syrup farm.

Char is a bit snappy and bitter at first, but as she settles into the community she sweetens up considerably. I thoroughly loved this book, and couldn’t read it fast enough. A new romance, secrets galore, and an endearing senior citizen makes this book a winner. Don’t miss BE SWEET. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $14.99. 314 pages.
