So Over My Head

Title: SO OVER MY HEAD
Author: Jenny B. Jones
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
May 2010
ISBN: 978-1-59554-543-5
Genre: Inspirational/young adult

Everyone in Truman, Oklahoma is excited when the Fritz Family Carnival makes its annual appearance. Bella is assigned to write feature articles on some of the workers and her first interviewee is the ‘bearded lady”. But Bella barely gets in a cursory interview and a promise for more after the show. When she goes back later, the “Bearded lady” is dead, stabbed to death in her trailer, with her fiancĂ©’s sword.

The police believe this is a pretty cut-and-dried case, but Bella suspects that there is something else going on. That the case really isn’t this simple. Bella’s boyfriend, Luke, takes Bella off the story, wanting to keep her safe, and assigns his ex-girlfriend to the story in Bella’s place. But the ex-girlfriend clearly wants Luke back, and will stop at nothing to get Bella completely out of the picture.

Unfortunately, somebody else has the same idea. And with Bella on the case, and the carnival in town, all kinds of wacky things start happening. Bella must somehow figure out what is going on while keeping one step ahead of the killer.

SO OVER MY HEAD is the third book in the A Charmed Life series. Both my fourteen year old daughter and I love this series and were excited to get this book in the mail to influence for the author.

Bella is a realistic heroine, sassy and smart, and the action is nonstop. I had to keep reading for two reasons—1. I had to find out what happened next. And 2. If I put it down, my daughter would pick it up. There is some delicious romantic moments included in the pages of this book too. SO OVER MY HEAD, and this entire series, is a must read for teen girls (and their mother). With summer and carnival time coming, this book is great for a pool side read on a hot, lazy afternoon. $12.99. 318 pages.
