So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. 1 Thessalonians 2:8 RSV
“Mrs. Dickey, how much longer do you plan to teach?” one of the students in her English class asked.
“Fourteen more
years unless God takes me to heaven first.”
“Do you believe in
heaven?”
“I sure do.” She gave
her testimony about her faith and shared the gospel with her class.
A female student
in the front row mumbled, “I’m not good enough to go to heaven.”
Mrs. Dickey’s
heart broke. She marched over to her bookcase and grabbed one of the Bibles she
kept in her bookcase. She handed it to the girl. “This is for you.”
Her student is not
alone in her thinking. Many feel they are not good enough for God’s love and
forgiveness. They are ashamed of past sins and cannot forgive themselves or
accept God’s forgiveness. They don’t realize He paid the price for their sins
with the sacrifice of His Son.
Are we like Mrs.
Dickey? Do we share our faith with the lost? Those who feel they aren’t good
enough?
Help me be bold, Lord. Lead me to those who do not
know You as their Lord and Savior. Amen.
