His Treasures by BJ Bassett #devotional

 His Treasures

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:20-21 NIV

I stood at the foot of the bed, where my husband lay dying. Our daughter Kathy lay next to him, lovingly rubbing her dad’s cheek and said, “I got all my good qualities from you, Daddy.” She glanced back at me and smiled, “I only got a couple from her.” Ed grinned.

I was grateful that each of our children had some precious one-on-one time with their dad during his last days on earth.

Together, as a family, we’d made a choice; with the help of Hospice, we’d keep him comfortable and cared for at home. No hospital. No tubes. Only loving care for the husband and father who had put his God and his family first his whole life. We were his treasures.

What are our treasures?

Heavenly Father, as I ponder Your birth, I want to make sure my treasures are stored in heaven. Amen.
