One across… Three down… The answer is in the puzzle. The danger is in not solving it before time’s up. (from the back cover)

Libby Keating didn’t know what her great aunt Stella was thinking. Stella’s will dictates that Libby share Aunt Stella’s old Philadelphia home with Libby’s twin sister, Tori, in order to receive Stella’s inheritance.

But this plan couldn’t work. The twins never could get along. Libby is the Christian of the family, the goody-two-shoes, the one everyone else made fun of. Tori is the flashy one, who rides around in limos and has a great job. Besides, Libby is less than please to discover that Tori had not only claimed the best bedroom immediately, but she is also on an all out campaign to steal the affection and allegiance of Libby’s thirteen year old daughter, Chloe, by buying her elaborate gifts.

When Libby finds a dead man laying on the front stoop of her house, she also discovers a note on the man’s body – addressed to Tori. It is a crossword puzzle, which everyone knows Tori loves. But this one contains a sinister message. When Tori shows no interest in the puzzle, Libby has to act with the help of a neighbor man. But can they solve the puzzles in time?

FATAL DEDUCTION is a great book by acclaimed author Gayle Roper. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and getting to know Libby, and the other characters. I especially liked several of the secondary characters. Some of the events were surprising, catching me unaware, but others I had pretty well figured out.

Don’t miss FATAL DEDUCTION. And if you love crossword puzzles and can’t resist filling them out, there are four of them included in this novel. Also discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $12.99. 336 pages.
