My Candy Valentine

Title: MY CANDY VALENTINE
Author: Darlene Franklin
Publisher: Franklin Publications
January 2015
ASIN: B00SI2214K
Genre: Historical romance / Valentines Day

Gilbert Williams sweeps Catrina Jensen off her feet when he arrives in Loveland, Oklahoma, shortly after New Year’s Day 1916. When the reason for his interest in her delicious candies is revealed, her affection turns to fear. Is her hero a traitor in disguise?

Catrina Jensen is the daughter of the owner of Jensen Mercantile store in Loveland, Oklahoma. Her father had been put out of business once before and her mother had died, and Catrina helped her father all she can with the store. She put her hopes and dreams on hold while she makes candy and pies that are the talk of the town.

Gilbert Williams from Chicago hears about her candy, and comes on business, scoping out her candy, but he also seems to have taken a liking to Catrina. What does he want and who does he work for? Is he wooing her for some other reasons than liking her?

MY CANDY VALENTINE was a sweet historical romance. I couldn't help but care for both the hero and the heroine as they struggled to do what they think right.  I loved the “conversation heart” chapter titles, and the way Catrina thought Gilbert looked like Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables. Who can’t “see” him from that description. Though I did look to see when exactly Anne of Green Gables was originally published.

MY CANDY VALENTINE was fairly predictable. I guessed how it would end. There was no surprise. But it did end with a sigh of contentment. I enjoyed it and recommend it for those looking for a sweet valentine read.
