My thoughts: MARS... WITH VENUS RISING is a cute contemporary romance, set, where else, but in Mars. The town, that is. Not the planet. Penn is not open for love. She has dreams. A CPA license. Losing the title of orphan. A big city and the ability to get lost in the crowd. John, on the other hand lives life in the limelight. A pilot--and almost (but not quite) as cocky as Tom Cruise on Top Gun. A crime-fighter--though he does it from the cockpit. As big as life and despite herself Penn is intrigued. Add some matchmaking aunts, a meddling horse, and a town festival and you have a romance guaranteed to send our heroine flying off into space--on a spaceship, not an airplane.   I learned something--didn't even know paperbag floors existed so I looked them up. Who knew? And the pictures I saw online indicate they look nice when done.   I enjoyed MARS...WITH VENUS RISING. It was slow... and the characters didn't really reach out, grab me, and draw me in, but it was a nice, quiet way to pass a few evenings.
