Abbie Torrington has lacked for nothing. A loving husband, two beautiful, intelligent daughters, a dream house. Her youngest daughter, Becca, is celebrating her eighteenth birthday and leaving in a few days for college, and Abbie is gearing up for the empty nest. And waiting for her husband, Trey, to return from a business trip to Dallas.

But Trey never returns. Instead, Abbie gets a phone call stating that her husband died of a heart attack—in another woman’s arms. And not even a half hour after she receives notice of her husband’s death, she is served with divorce papers. Abbie had no idea that anything was wrong with her marriage. Abbie is desperate to protect her children from news about her husband’s infidelity, and to somehow find healing.

LYING ON SUNDAY is a second novel by new author Sharon K. Souza, and it is a winner. Abbie is a real character, so real that I felt as if I’d stepped into her life and was living the story out right beside her. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Abbie, and the secondary characters, and to fight for survival right along side them.

With Abbie not being a religious person, I wasn’t sure about how the faith message would play out. However, it was expertly woven in and wasn’t preachy. The California setting is expertly woven into the story. I loved Abbie’s best friend, Shawlie, and Abbie’s sweet daughter, Becca. The only thing I didn’t love about this story is that it ended. I wanted to keep reading and find out what happened…with Shawlie, with Abbie’s oldest daughter, Bailey, with Abbie… I hope this author has a sequel in the works. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. 427 pages.
