Discover the power of Guilt-Free Pleasure …

Gary Thomas maintains that pleasure is a good thing. It’s a powerful force that can feed your relationships, help protect your spiritual integrity, and bring delight to the heavenly Father. Pleasure isn’t something Christians should fear, shun, or disparage; it is something we should learn to cultivate in our lives.

PURE PLEASURE can be read as a devotional, though really it would be more suitable for a small group setting. Each chapter starts with a motivational quote, a verse, and then a humorous story. The chapter then goes on to apply spiritual applications that you can gleam from the story, and ends with discussion questions. The chapters are a bit long for devotionals, but if you have time on your hand they could work. But really, like I said, it is great for small group studies.

I enjoyed reading through PURE PLEASURE and getting Mr. Thomas’ take on some issues. I have heard some of the arguments against pleasure that Mr. Thomas presents in his book (but not in a long time) as I believe that God does have a sense of humor and does want us to take pleasure in our lives. But I also believe that pleasure has to be tempered with uh, that four letter word, work.

If you are worried about whether having fun is allowed as a Christian, or maybe questioning if you should become a Christian because then you won’t be allowed any fun, or maybe you laughed a little too hard at something and a stern blue-haired lady glared at you, then PURE PLEASURE is the book to consider. It will teach you that God created pleasure, and that yes, you are allowed to enjoy it! $14.99. 250 pages.
