When Summer Finley has an abnormal mammogram, her initial reaction is denial. Her mother had died from breast cancer, and Summer is not ready to deal with it. So, she books a trip to Holland to visit her best friend (and pen pal) since third grade, Noelle Van Zandt.

A dream vacation, complete with hilarious ‘accidents’ follow the two friends. Noelle is a life-saver for Summer, and Summer helps Noelle deal with some long-time issues too. But what will happen with Summer once she gets home? Will she learn from her vacation?

Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes. I lived near Holland, Michigan for several years and visiting the actual country of the Netherlands through this book helped me recall Holland, Michigan with pleasure and learn some things about the Dutch people that I never knew before.

Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes is part of Robin’s Sisterchick series where she is taking us on reading tours around the world. I have loved every book in this series so far, but I think Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes is my very favorite so far. This book is going on my keeper shelf.

Included at the end of the book is a section entitled Afterwards. Discussion questions and bonus materials, including pictures and stories from Robin’s actual trip to the Netherlands. I really enjoyed reading that section to learn more about the story and the country.

Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes is not to be missed.
