My thoughts (LVH):  JOKE AND DAGGER might be the eighth book in this series, but they do stand alone. Joey is on set for a new movie when a group of pirates stumble on the scene. One of them has a cryptic warning about death and when he's found dead, he has a note in code for Joey. Except how are they supposed to solve it?

Other random events occur and it begins to appear that someone wants the movie to flop. But who?

This was an action-filled book that I had to keep reading.  There were plenty of humorous moments and I never did guess who-dun-it until it was revealed.
