The Rivers Run Dry

Title: THE RIVERS RUN DRY
Author: Sibella Giorello
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
2009
ISBN: 978-1-59554-533-6
Genre: Inspirational/suspense

Special Agent Raleigh Harmon has been sent to Oregon to work in the FBI office there since she was being disciplined in her Richmond, Virginia based office. Raleigh is good at her job, and doesn’t appreciate some of the male attitudes.

When Raleigh is assigned to assist in a missing persons case that the local police department needs help with, the grieving parents are convinced it’s a kidnapping charge. However, there’s no ransom note, no reason to believe it’s a kidnapping. But the parents are rich and have connections and they are insisting that no stone remain unturned in the search for their daughter.

Raleigh must use all her skills as a forensic geologist to uncover the truth—which will not only put Raleigh’s career on the rocks, but also her life at stake.

I wasn’t real sure what to think about THE RIVERS RUN DRY when I chose it from Thomas Nelson’s blogger site, but the book proved much better than I anticipated. The story is gritty, with a setting that is worked so intricately into the story that it becomes a character in its own right.

I loved Raleigh. She is real, flawed and seeking, struggling to fit in at her job. I couldn’t put THE RIVERS RUN DRY down; I had to keep reading to see what happened next. If you enjoy suspense, you can’t miss THE RIVERS RUN DRY. It is definitely a must read. Reader’s guide included. $14.99. 324.
