When we think about Little League sports, usually the first thing that we think of are pushy coaches and over-competitive parents. However, supporters of these sports say that there are many positive character traits that children develop while playing team sports.

Kathryn Nixon and Ana Boudreau help to instill these virtues in their books, THE SPIRIT IN BASEBALL and THE SPIRIT IN FOOTBALL. These books are based on the fruits of the spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Written for young children these books held my six-year-old captivated and she loved looking at the pictures. There is also a short biography of a professional player, Troy Nixon (Kathryn’s husband) or Matt Hasselbeck, in the book. Each fruit of the spirit is introduced by a verse demonstrating this fruit, followed by the application.

If your child plays team sports or has a sibling that plays then THE SPIRIT OF BASEBALL or THE SPIRIT IN FOOTBALL would be excellent for them. Great books for young children. It also has a page for autographs which could make the book a collector’s item. $14.99 hardcover. 28 pages.
