Hurt, disappointed, messed up, and dried out, that's how
many of us feel in life as we carry on the best we can. 30-Day Detox for Your
Soul is more than a devotional, it is a spiritual "deep clean" or
"health spa" that gently but effectively uncovers the issues of the
heart (both old and new) that negatively affect the way we live and act,
allowing God to heal us and set us free, spiritually and emotionally. Writing
from her own experiences with heart-piercing honesty, author Jo Naughton provides
an easy-to-follow daily journey that will ignite a new fire in our relationship
with God, leading to renewed purpose and the fulfillment of our true destiny in
life.
30-DAY DETOX FOR YOUR SOUL is a thirty-day Christian Living
book that can be used as a devotional. It starts with a short verse, shares a
short personal story, then has kind of a mini-sermonette on the topic, an
application for you to apply to your life, followed by a prayer, and a tweet to
share.
I like to read devotionals, I usually read them in the
morning, then at random times during the day when I need a moment or two with
God. This one is not really devotional in tone though it is set up in that
style, it is more “teaching/preaching” in style, you could almost hear the
words coming from the pulpit as you read the words. Thus, it is much drier and
meater than a regular devotional. I liked that the verses are included, as well
as the author’s thoughts about them.
I was a bit bothered, in one of the chapters, the author said,
“I was preaching, I was the important
one.” That disturbed me greatly, as the preacher is just the messenger, it’s
all about Him. That was an
opportunity for humility, and God did teach the author that needed lesson.
If you want a meatier devotional than most, then 30-DAY
DETOX FOR YOUR SOUL is a good one. Lots of thoughts to ponder, and some really
cleanse you from the inside out.
4 stars. 175 pages. Available in ebook and paperback.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my
honest review.
