Interview with Darlene Franklin and #Giveaway

Today we welcome Darlene Franklin to my blog. Darlene is very graciously giving away one ebook copy of Seeking Cinderella. Darlene, we're glad to have you stop by. Tell us about your book – a brief blurb:

Seeking Cinderella has two contemporary retellings of the classic story: Cinderella’s Boot, which is also a second chance love story; and Hillberry Cinderella by Cynthia Hickey. Two great stories, if I do say so myself!

What inspired you to write this book?

I’d wanted to write Cinderella’s Boot ever since I spotted a single worn cowboy boot on the side of a city street. Who had left it there and why? My romantic author’s mind took flight, and then my publisher was looking runaway bride stories.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’ve been told my writing is sweet. but not simplistic, and I also have a lyrical use of language.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Editing often takes as long as writing. I can’t speed it up.

Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write than others? Love? Action?

Whatever scene I’m writing, I have to remind myself to add in description—of the people, of the setting, the fillers that make the scene flow smoother. Then other times, I have too much description that it slows down the action!

What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?

It’s getting harder to make enough money writing. I’m not as good at self-marketing as some others, although I work at it.
What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
I’ll assume you’ve all caught the writing bug!  This advice applies primarily to writers who are finding their way. So my first advice is to write, every day, even if only for a few minutes.  My second is to find a critique partner, or two, in person if possible.
Do you have a favorite writing conference to attend? What is it?
Now I live in a nursing home, and I don’t go to a conference. But I attended Colorado Christian Writers Conference every year from the time I began writing until I left Colorado.  Lots of opportunities to meet with authors, editors, and agents, and terrific teaching and music!
Bio:
Best-selling Amazon and ECPA author Darlene Franklin’s greatest claim to fame is that she continues to write from a nursing home. She keeps going because God keeps giving her more assignments. She’s written more than fifty-five fiction and nonfiction books, including Pray Through the Bible in a Year (https://amzn.to/2GOZUVz) and Of Cash and Cats in Love Comes on Kitten Paws (https://amzn.to/2Lf3hIN).
