Interview with Colleen Hall about her new book Wounded Heart

Today we welcome Colleen Hall to my blog.  Thanks for stopping by!  Tell us about the book – a brief blurb:

Della Hughes longs for adventure and freedom from the strict and repressive Victorian society in which she grew up. When her uncle and guardian, General Clint Logan, buys land in the Colorado territory to build a ranch and raise horses for the Western army, Della decides she must accompany his family. Along the journey she encounters more adventure than she expected. Indians, rustlers, and rattlesnakes add danger to the trek across the plains. A persistent cavalry captain thinks Della would make him the perfect wife. A Cheyenne chieftain’s son tells her that she’s brought sunshine to his heart, and the handsome army scout who ramrods their wagon train believes that the secret in his past makes him unworthy of loving Della. She must convince the man of her heart that love is worth risking everything to gain.

Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?

I read the reviews, but I don’t respond to them. I’ve been advised not to interact with  reviewers. The bad ones hurt, but sometimes they might offer good insight for future writing. Usually I take what they say with a grain of salt and try not to take their comments personally. Everyone isn’t going to like my books, any more than I like every book I read.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? Penelope Williamson

What book are you reading now? HONDO by Louis L’Amour

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I have many authors whose work I admire, but my overall favorite is Penelope Williamson. Her characters come alive and leap off the page. She creates people who have strengths as well as human foibles. Her characters are complex. Her books are rich with historical detail, and the worlds she creates make you think you’re living there.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Kristen Heitzmann

If you didn't like writing books, what would you do for a living?

I’d like to be a photographer.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Right now I’m working on the third book in my series, which features Shane’s half-Cheyenne brother.  Wild Wind is introduced in WOUNDED HEART, and I tell his story in WARRIOR’S HEART.
