Unwilling Promise
by
Paperback: 108 pages
Klarysa Tutko, a young single mother, moves to Caribou, Minnesota, where her family is now living, to put her life back in order. All she wants is to leave the past in the past; though a family friend has other ideas and persuades her to make a promise that she is unwilling to keep.
My thoughts: UNWILLING PROMISE is the first book I've read by this author. It is written in the style of Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke. It is a historical colored by divorce, abuse, and multiple deaths so I found it a rather depressing read. It also would've benefitted from a good critique group or editor. She did really good describing a Ukrainian wedding and her fears about dragon flies were hilarious but it was kind of emotional abuse the way some reacted. The speech was formal and stilted, the paragraphes filled with run-on sentences, and there are many misspelled or misused words. Definitely a beginner attempt at writing, but I have to applaud her courage putting it out there. I cringe at my first attempts. Fans of historical Prairie romances might love this book. The Ukrainian stuff was really well done.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
