It's the summer of '42. The world is at war and Japan's Imperial Army is moving across the island of New Guinea.
After their mission is attacked, Justine Whitcomb is left with seven children to lead to safety through enemy lines. She leads them to a cave and goes back for her husband Mark, but is taken captive. Upon her escape with the help of her friend Virginia, she knows she must return to the children, even without Mark.
When Lieutenant Tyler Merrick finds her, Justine hopes he will help, but he's drunk and doesn't believe her story. He thinks Justine is the rogue spy he been sent to find.
She needs to win his trust, because if they can't stop fighting one another, they will never get off the island alive.

Marilyn's thoughts: This historical story followed Pearl Harbor when the island of New Guinea
is invaded by the Japan ’s
Imperial Army. Justine Whitcomb discovered a lot of denial and betrayal by her
mission husband but she was strong and held to her faith to keep seven children
safe. Lieutenant Tyler Merrick assignment had not been what he expected it to
be after losing his brother at Pearl Harbor . Tyler is suspicious of
Justine being the rogue spy, but there world is shaken by many painful
situations. Will they be able to learn to trust each other? What about those
children Justine had led to safety before her being captured?
This is one heart pounding story that will cause moments of
great sorrow for what Americans experienced at the hand of the enemy during
WWII. However, it’s a very worthwhile historical read. I’m looking forwarding
to reading the sequel Rescued as soon as my schedule allows.
I won a copy of this book and Rescued on a blog giveaway in
2017 and was not required to write a review. This is my own opinion.
