Chill Out by Jenna V Hilton

Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

My pit bull lab mix, Skye, was six months old when we got her. When she came home, she was skittish. Everything was a first for her. Her first time roaming the house, she refused to enter the kitchen because there was a sack of potatoes on the floor. Poor Skye spent a good five minutes barking and whining at those potatoes before someone grabbed her by the collar and made her smell the bag. After that ordeal she went in and out of the kitchen no problem.

Until I opened the oven when she was next to it. I still crack up remembering how fast she ran out of there. That was when she figured out that my mom was the perfect place to go for comfort.

We all need comfort now and again. We all get scared and confused. What matters is what or Who we run to. God wants us to run to him, but most of the time we don’t. We run to earthly comforts instead, not realizing that they are temporary and often harmful. Only God can give us true lasting comfort.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for always being there when we need You. Help us to run to You with or troubles, worries, and fears. Help us to remember that You are never far away. In Jesus Name, Amen.
