Each year Louisa Hamilton allows herself one dream, one hope, one prayer which she asks God to give her as her Mistletoe Christmas gift. God has always answered. This year she’s prayed fervently, but has she made a terrible Mistletoe Mistake?
It’s 1880, and the Brahmin Elite, families who sailed from England on the Mayflower, rule tight-laced Boston. To safeguard the family wealth, heirs must marry heiresses. The gene pond is small and suitable choices few. The pool shrinks to a puddle when first born females must marry before their younger sisters. What if the first-born daughter is not interested in marriage? What’s Louisa, a second born daughter, to do?
Four close-knit first-born males have reached that dreaded age where they must choose mates. Quinton Adams’s father gives him an ultimatum – wed by Christmas or be disinherited.
Time is running out for four confirmed bachelors who must compete for the favor of three eligible, and equally desperate, young ladies.
Marilyn’s thoughts:
One Groom is Not Enough was a fun and delightful story set in
Boston during 1880. The elite Bostonians had an underlying rule that the oldest
sister had to marry first. Louisa knew her older sister, Abby, didn’t appear
interested in marrying. Quinton had been given an ultimatum and shared it with
his friends. As four young ladies and four men of age to marry with wealth,
Louisa had one hope and prayer. There are plenty of events to join the couples
but with Christmas fast approaching Louisa thought her scheme was not coming
together as she planned. Will she receive her Christmas Mistletoe gift or will
her scheme fail?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author
and was under no obligation to write a review. I have expressed my own opinion.
