Title: THE BRIDEGROOMS
Author: Allison Pittman
Publisher: Multnomah
April 2010
ISBN: 978-1-60142-137-1
Genre: Inspirational/historical romance

Vada Allenhouse’s mother vanished when Vada was eight years old. As the oldest of four girls, Vada virtually grew up overnight, having to raise her three younger sisters while their father hid his grief by burying himself in his medical practice.

Now all grown up, Vada works as an errand girl for Cleveland’s amateur orchestra where she dreams of someday sharing her violin talents, and spending her evenings with her beau, Garrison Walker, who seems a bit detached and passionless.

When the Brooklyn Bridegrooms come to play the Cleveland Spiders, a line drive hits one of the spectators in the head. The fan is taken to the Allenhouse home for treatment, and suddenly the four girls are filled with potential suitors. Dr. Allenhouse is frustrated by the medical case. Will Dr. Allenhouse figure out how to treat his patient? And will the four Allenhouse girls find love?

THE BRIDEGROOMS is a cute story of four sisters who long for love and acceptance while struggling to understand why their mother would run off. Each girl has suffered some sort of side-effect from their mother’s abandonment that they must work through.

The story is well-written, with Vada being the main character. The setting is very well developed so that as a reader, I could see and hear what was happening. Ms. Pittman is a very talented author that will go far, and I’m looking forward to reading many more books by her. If you enjoy historical fiction, don’t miss THE BRIDEGROOMS. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $13.99. 335 pages.
