Love Finds You in Last Chance, California

Title: LOVE FINDS YOU IN LAST CHANCE, CALIFORNIA

2008

Genre: Inspirational/historical

Alexia Travers is all alone in the world. Her father, Ben, was found dead on the trail, and the doctor has ruled the death as his heart. But Alex believes that someone was behind her father’s death. Especially when she learns that her father has ordered horses and mortgaged the ranch—and was carrying a large amount of cash, mostly in gold on his person. Money that has never been recovered.

Justin Phillips had been summoned by Ben Travers, with a short message stating that Ben needed Justin’s help and that he believed his life was in danger. Still, Justin is surprised when he arrives in town to discover that Ben is dead, and that his daughter, Alex is riding the range, dressed as a man.

Justin decides to keep his identity secret and applies for a position at Alex’s ranch just to keep an eye on things and find out what Ben had wanted or needed. But Alex isn’t sure what to think of him. After all, there seems to be a lot of story that Justin isn’t telling. Is the boy with him really his son? Why does he so closely resemble a horse thief? Will Alex learn to trust God for His wisdom and direction when things don’t go according to her plan?

LOVE FINDS YOU IN LAST CHANCE, CALIFORNIA is another one of the delightful romances set in various parts of the country that either are real or were once real locations. Last Chance, California falls into the once real category. Now it is nothing more than a ghost town, a wide spot in the road of California’s mountains. But in the 1800’s it was a thriving community, and possibly home to people similar to those in the story Miralee Ferrell wove about it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Alex and Justin, and hoped that they would find Ben’s gold and be able to save the ranch. I also liked that there was a bit of a suspense in there, with someone targeting Alex. I enjoyed trying to figure that out—and though I had several ideas, I didn’t know for sure who it was until the end of the book. Make sure you pick up a copy of LOVE FINDS YOU IN LAST CHANCE, CALIFORNIA. It is a wonderful read, and I loved all the historical information about Last Chance included in the story. $13.99. 312 pages.
