“We can’t all be Amish, but in many ways, we would do well to follow their example.” ~ Mindy Starns Clark

SIMPLE JOYS OF THE AMISH LIFE allows the reader to take an armchair tour of Amish country. There are plenty of paintings illustrating the grace and simplicity of Amish living. Not only that, but short essays talk about the Amish values, rules, clothing, schooling, celebrations, and other differences.

Scattered between the essays and the paintings, there are short essays about meal time, and quite a few recipes are included, for different meals of the day, breakfast, lunch, supper, as well as serving suggestions.

Some of the recipes sound good and I want to give them a try—others are tried and true recipes that are made on a regular basis in my home.

I enjoyed reading through this gift book and highly recommend it for anyone who would enjoy a simple guide to the Amish. This isn’t the textbook about each of the rules, history, and what-fors but rather a guide that will give ideas about the rules and the reasons, plenty of pictures and recipes to enjoy, and a book that would look good on any coffee table. $12.99 hardcover. 50 pages.
