Title: THE INCONVENIENT MARRIAGE OF CHARLOTTE BECK
Author: Kathleen Y’Barbo
Publisher: Waterbrook Press
June 2011
ISBN: 978-0-307-44482-0
Genre: Inspirational/historical romance

Charlotte Beck has just reached the age where she’s ready to be presented to society. She is taken to Victorian England for her debut, and at one of the social gatherings, Charlotte, unable to breath due to the restraints of her corset goes over to the window and manages to fall out. She is caught by Alex Hambly and suddenly, everything changes.

Alex Hambly is an astronomer, and the last thing he wants is a romantic entanglement—or any entanglement with an American heiress. Alex is responsible for his parents finances and a brother who lost his mind in the war, and he doesn’t need or want any more responsibility.

Even though Alex and Charlotte don’t like each other at all, somehow they keep finding themselves together! Alex begins to think of Charlotte as a nuisance and a menace. Charlotte’s opinion of Alex isn’t much higher. But what happens when they are forced to wed to save Alex from financial aid, and to give Charlotte her heart’s desire—college.

THE INCONVENIENT MARRIAGE OF CHARLOTTE BECK is the third book in the Women of the West series, but it easily stands alone. I enjoyed getting to know the spoiled tomboy, Charlotte, and the reluctant Viscount, Alex. Charlotte reminds me strongly of one of my aunts. Very used to getting her own way, demanding, and complaining about everything and anything. Alex was a strong hero, surprisingly able to control Charlotte to some degree, and yet sweet, kind, and loving.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tension between the two in the first half of the book. The second half dragged a little at first, but soon picked up again. If you are looking for a different sort of historical romance, then THE INCONVENIENT MARRIAGE OF CHARLOTTE BECK will be an excellent choice. Recommended. 335 pages. $13.99.

I didn’t receive this book in return for review. This is my own copy. No review was expected.
