The Hearts We Mend

The Hearts We Mend

by Kathryn Springer

Contemporary Romance
Thomas Nelson

Planning and Post-It notes are the epitome of Evie's life. But when she meets Jack, her life gets more than a little complicated.

For young widow Evie Bennett, moving forward will mean deciding what to leave behind . . . and what to keep.
Widowed at the age of twenty-five when her firefighter husband was killed in the line of duty, Evie Bennett has spent the last thirteen years raising their son, Cody, in the close-knit community of Banister Falls. As the women's ministry director of her church, Evie  encourages women to boldly pursue God's plan for their future . . . while she is content with her memories of the past. But Evie's well-ordered life begins to change when she meets Jack Vale.

As Evie gets drawn into Jack's world---a world that isn't as safe and predictable as the one she's worked so hard to create---he challenges her to open her eyes to the problems in the community . . . but will Evie open her heart to love again?
Because even though Jack isn't anything like her late husband, he just might be everything she needs.

My thoughts: THE HEARTS WE MEND is the second book in Ms. Springer's Banister Falls series and I hope it won't be the last.  I loved the first one, The Dandelion Field, and I anxiously waited for this one - and oh, it did not disappoint. I devoured every word of this book.  Jack totally rocks (to use my teenage daughter's words) and Evie has grown so much since The Dandelion Field. She continuously surprised me.  I totally loved this book, the characters, and it was so good to catch up with Max and Gin, Cody and Raine. Did I mention that I loved this?  My copy is going on my keeper shelf.

If you haven't read The Dandelion Field, don't worry. THE HEARTS WE MEND does stand alone even though it does  have continuing characters in it. You will, however, want to read it. I think Ms. Springer is on the way of becoming one of my favorite authors with this series.  5 stars.
