My thoughts: Shadow of Fear is the sixth book in the series but it easily stands alone. Fans will want to read the first five books though.  The story starts out with a literal bang and doesn't let up from there. I was left guessing who could possibly be behind the attacks and why.  If you like romantic suspense you will definitely want to read this book in any other books written by Susan Sleeman.   This will make an excellent gift for someone on your list.
