Quills and Promises

Title: QUILLS AND PROMISES
Author: Amber Miller
Publisher: Heartsong Presents
2008
ISBN: 978-1-60260-049-2
Genre: Inspirational/historical romance

Fifteen year old Elanna Hanssen meets her friend’s dashing cousin, Major Madison Scott, during one of her rare visits to town and is instantly smitten. But unfortunately, the very next day, the Major catches Elanna spying on a town council meeting and chastises her. In spite of this, Elanna still agrees to write to Major Scott when he is called off to fight in the French and Indians.

Madison Scott is loath to leave the flaxen-haired beauty that captured his attention when he first meets her, but he lives for her correspondence. As they cautiously bare their hearts to each other, they begin to fall in love.

However, the local newspaper begins to question the integrity of Madison Scott. Elanna is crushed, but uncertain whether to let her heart or head rule.

QUILLS AND PROMISES is the second book in Ms. Miller’s Delaware series which will be repackaged later as a set of three stories set in Delaware. I enjoyed getting to know Elanna, and reconnecting with the hero and heroine from the first book.

Elanna seems to be a spunky heroine, reminding me rather of the heroine in the American Girl movie, Felicity. Ms. Miller has the speech for that time period, the clothing, and the historical facts down pat, indicating that she must have spent a lot of time researching this series, and her efforts show. Don’t miss QUILLS AND PROMISES, or the first book in this series, Promises, Promises. $4.95. 170 pages.
