My thoughts:  A SON'S VOW is the first book in Ms. Gray's newest Amish series. It has several point of view characters, not just Lukas and Darla. The book was rather hard to read as it deals with loss and physical abuse and the depravity of mankind, although it was dealt with somewhat tactfully.  I admired the way Lukas stood up for Darla -- in a way. In another way, he was a bully of a different sort, not so much physically though, but in a way that I will do what I want and you have nothing to say about it. Since he was interfering in her life, I think she did. I admired that Darla had the strength to fight for herself instead of letting Lukas run all over her. She was a little spitfire at times.  Written in Shelly's unique voice I found myself tangled up in these characters lives. I hoped Aaron would turn away from his anger issues and that Lukas would be somewhat less forceful. There is no faith message to speak of in the story, forgiveness is the theme, and I did get confused over Darla's family dynamics -- who is who -- but I think I eventually figured that out.
