Jewel Libby feels unsafe in her boarding house. The man in charge of collecting the rent has made sexual advances on both Jewel, and her young daughter, Becky. Forced to chose between protecting her daughter and losing her job, Jewel goes to the police, but finds that they are unwilling to help.

Desperate, Jewel turns to family friends for help, and she is directed to the vicarage in the peaceful dairy village of Gresham. But when Jewel arrives, she finds that the village isn’t as peaceful as she hoped, as the vicar and his wife are having troubles of their own. Can Jewel fit into this trouble community, and possibly provide relief?

THE JEWEL OF GRESHAM GREEN is the fourth book in Ms. Blackwell’s Gresham Chronicles. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but this book seems to easily stand alone. The faith message is not preachy, and the setting is absolutely wonderfully described, I could almost envision some of the scenery.

Fans of historical fiction, or even this particular series will not want to miss THE JEWEL OF GRESHAM GREEN. Ms. Blackwell has a knack of bringing 1884 to life in her novels, and making us care about the characters who lived then. Grab a cup of tea, and pick up THE JEWEL OF GRESHAM GREEN today. You will be glad you did. $13.99. 416 pages.
