The Passion of Mary-Margaret

Title: THE PASSION OF MARY-MARGARET
Author: Lisa Samson
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
March 2009
ISBN: 978-1-59554-2113
Genre: Inspirational/women’s fiction

Mary-Margaret has always known she was destined to be a religious sister in the Catholic Church, so she never balked at the idea of being married only to Jesus. Still, she doesn’t understand why she feels this sinful desire for Jude—rough and tumble, promiscuous Jude. She prays for Jesus to remove this sinful desire, but He never does, and another sister encourages the feelings, saying that it is normal, and okay, as long as she doesn’t act on it.

After briefly serving as a teacher in the Deep South on the cusp on the Civil Rights Movement, Mary-Margaret returns to the island to prepare for her final vows. But instead of taking the final vows, Jesus tells Mary-Margaret that she must marry Jude. But first, Mary-Margaret has to find Jude—and then convince him to marry her. Not an easy task, especially when Jude refuses to even see her.

THE PASSION OF MARY-MARGARET is an easy read. Written in a style of Mary-Margaret sitting at the table with you, sharing her life story with the reader. In spite of not being Catholic, and understanding little about that church, I was engrossed in the story, and couldn’t put it down. Mary-Margaret is a real character, down-to-earth and friendly. Even Jude is adorable, in his bad boy, slightly shocking manner, though he did make some terrible choices with his life.

I highly recommend THE PASSION OF MARY-MARGARET. It’s a risky love story, realistic and true to life, and definitely gripping. $14.99. 320 pages.
