Parting the Waters

Title: PARTING THE WATERS
Author: Jeanne Damoff
Publisher: WinePress Publishing
2008
ISBN: 978-1-57921-950-5
Genre: Inspirational/non-fiction/real life

Jeanne Damoff is unprepared for what awaits her when she pulls in to the parking lot of the school she teaches at. She knows only that her friend Pam is crying and that she is hustled off to the hospital where she is told that Jeremy, her son’s friend has drowned, and Jacob, Jeanne’s son, is in serious condition. She isn’t prepared for that serious condition to mean he’s in a coma and may never wake up.

Jacob had been underwater for 10 minutes, at least, before he was noticed missing, and he wasn’t breathing when his body was recovered from the bottom of the lake. Workers administered CPR to him for 20 minutes before they finally got a heartbeat. If Jacob survives, what will he have to go through to get any degree of normalcy back?

I was so not prepared for what PARTING THE WATERS was about. I hadn’t read the back of the book when I picked this book up off my to-be-read pile, and not being prepared, I was crying by the time I reached page 19 in the book. I think even if I had known I would still have cried. Ms. Damoff tells the story as she remembers it happening, and it is so poignantly real it is heartbreaking. I can feel every emotion that Ms. Damoff went through, and I’m scared to death to let my teen sons go canoeing after reading this book! Also included in this book are sections where those near to Jacob and his family tell the story in their own words.

PARTING THE WATERS is a tale that will truly demonstrate what unexpected graces God gives when He seems to have taken things away that are dear. This story will stay with the reader for a long, long time. I highly endorse PARTING THE WATERS. $12.95. 213 pages.

Thanks so much for this review and heartfelt endorsement. Sorry about all the crying. And please extend my apologies to your sons if they're fond of canoeing! ;)
