Genre: Inspirational/historical

Charity Bloom’s fiancĂ© has left her stranded at the altar and ran off with Charity’s best friend. Charity is humiliated, but is forced to show her face in public to run errands in town. There, among the gossips and the sympathetic ears she meets newcomer to town, Buddy Pierce.

Buddy is looking for someplace to stay and all the hotel rooms are rented out. He heard that Charity’s mother rents rooms so he trails Charity home. There he discovers Ms. Bloom covered in black soil…and upon investigation, Buddy discovers a rich oil field on the Bloom’s property. Buddy hopes the discovery will help the widow and her daughter out of their poverty…

But now Charity’s former fiancĂ© is back in the picture, all apologetic for leaving Charity standing at the altar. But Daniel has three obstacles to overcome to re-win Charity’s heart—a manipulative mama, a spurned lover, and the stranger by her side.

CHASING CHARITY is a charmingly sweet story set in the real life town of Humble, Texas. The second in the Texas Fortunes series, CHASING CHARITY easily stands alone. Unique from other historicals I’ve read recently, this story features an oil field, a spurned lover, and two suitors. Charity won my sympathy from the beginning, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with her quirky, opinionated, and outspoken mother.

CHASING CHARITY is a delightful read that is truly funny at times. This is a book that people read to escape from reality, a book that will give you several hours of reading pleasure. Don’t miss CHASING CHARITY for a truly delightful read. 301 pages, $14.95.
