John Blasé decided to spend time in 2007 going through the advent and studying it extensively. This study time has resulted in this retelling of the birth of our Lord, and the events preceding and proceeding. Using Eugene Peterson’s The Message coupled with Mr. Blasé’s thoughts on how the recipients of the news might have responded. The end of each section is a prayer which appears to be hand-written by Mr. Blasé.
The whole book is beautifully done and will make the reader look at the story of the advent in a whole new way. You will feel the tear as Zachariah accepts the unbelievable news that at her advanced age, his wife, Elizabeth would bear a child. You can see Elizabeth awe as she recognizes the changes of her body. You can almost feel the pain Mary felt as she gave birth to God’s son.
