Julia Cavanaugh is an orphan. Raised in an orphanage, when she grew up she became kind of the second in command at the home. But then the headmistress decides to get married and she puts all the girls on an orphan train west—with Julia to accompany them. Julia plans to return to New York as soon as the children are delivered to their new homes but when she gets there she discovers an unpleasant surprise—she’s been promised to an old prospector to be his mail-order bride.

When Julia misses the train, trying to escape the miner’s unwelcome attentions, she turns to a circuit rider preacher for assistance. But the parson, Isaac, has further unwelcome news. Julia’s ticket was one way. She had no options but to stay. Isaac did manage to talk to the prospector into holding off on the “staking of his claim” though.

With no where to go and no friends, Julia is at a loss what to do next, and her options are bleak. What are God’s plans for a lonely woman stranded in the middle of the vast Montana prairie?

LOVE FINDS YOU IN LONESOME PRAIRIE, MONTANA is a combined effort between two authors. I didn’t feel much of Tricia’s voice in this story, but even if she didn’t do much other than loan her name, the writing was still stellar. The first two chapters kind of dragged a bit for me, but once I got into chapter three I was into the story and I had to keep reading to see what happened next. The first two chapters, while dragging, did set the stage for events that would follow for both characters later in the book.

Julia and Isaac were both wonderfully developed characters and I fell in love with both of them. There are also a host of other characters that were fun, quirky, and nice to get to know. I enjoyed reading LOVE FINDS YOU IN LONESOME PRAIRIE, MONTANA, and I’m looking forward to this teams’ next book coming by Summerside Press. $12.99.
348 pages.
